4th Time's the Charm with this Birthday Card...
Well, Readers, I have missed a huge number of posts! I feel terribly about it because I've had a lot of material ready to go, but haven't taken the time or energy to actually write the posts. I've been busy in general, but also more interested in making paper art than in making blog posts. To be totally honest, it's the linking that I can't bear to do. I might start posting without that information and then filling it in later. If you want any information that isn't listed, please just send me an email (TheBookofLael@gmail.com). Look forward to more consistent but shorter posts!
Okay, so here's my Dad's birthday card. It was a huge disaster. I was up until 5 am the night before I went over for his party and almost gave up entirely. I include some of the messed up parts below. I had to redo the whole thing several times. With glue and sequins everywhere, I thought I may have finally lost my remaining sanity. Anyway, I always love when people post their messes--always reinvigorates me to feel that it's okay to mess up and that everybody does it. Hope this helps you, too, even though we all already knew I'm a clumsy oaf!
On a more positive note, I've been trying to figure out a more acceptable way to turn a die cut word gold or silver without buying heat embossing supplies and had not had good success with metallic paper which was damaged by the die cut machine. Just using a gold Sharpie worked very well.

Silly Birthday Card
Once upon a time in the days of AOL and Yahoo e-greetings, there was an e-card of an animated pig. It jumped and opened its mouth--which was its entire body--to chomp while the text "Let's do lunch!" appeared. I can't tell you why, but this became a thing for me and my best friend. An inside joke that over the years has also included doing full body impressions of our beloved pig from the days before Web 2.0. So, I decided to be silly and replicate our "high tech" memory in decidedly "low tech" paper. Although this serves as an inside joke for us, I think I might make more like this for children's cards. I kind of like my big mouthed pig! For the design, I was inspired by this YouTube video with France Martin and I used Lawn Fawn's Circle Stackables.

Inlay Set and Thank You Card
Howdy, Readers,
Another amazing birthday gift I received this year was the My Favorite Things' Abstract Cover Up die. I used it to create inlay for this set of note cards and a thank you card. I layered die cuts using Mama Elephant's Thanks Script Creative Cuts die. The papers include basicgrey's 6x6 Prism, Crate Paper's 6x6 DIY Shop, Crate Paper's 6x6 Farmhouse, Heidi Swapp's 5x7 Wanderlust Collection, and Papertrey Ink's 6x6 Guide Lines.

Wedding and Congratulations Cards
Dear Readers,
Today I show two cards--a wedding card and a congratulations card. The wedding card was for the same friend of the wine charms from my last post, so I again used paper from Authentique's 6x6 Seaside. As for dies, I used Lawn Fawn's Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables, Lawn Fawn's Scripty Love, and the Paper Smooches' Anchor. My other friend, Lady J, successfully defended her PhD dissertation, and I thought the wonderful birthday die I received would be perfect for a celebratory card--Echo Park's Rocket Ships. I also used basicgrey 6x6 Aurora and Echo Park's 6x6 Getaway.

Bachelorette Wine Charms
Howdy, Readers,
My friend Angel and I made the below "wine" charms (more like martini charms in our case) for our mutual friend's bachelorette party. We were inspired by this etsy shop discovered via Pinterest. Our friend is into everything nautical, so we used anchor charms and paper from Authentique's 6x6 Seaside. I used My Favorite Things' Stitched Circle Stax to create the label portions of the charms while Angel picked out and assembled the bead portions from my random stash. I think we made a pretty stellar team! I show images from the initial creation, but also the great presentation Angel put together for the party.
I think another craft night is in order, soon!

Ink Blending
Howdy, Readers,
I've been watching lots of craft videos with ink blending and decided I wanted to experiment a bit with the Simon Says Stamp inks I already had. I followed the Frugal Crafter's advice to try to make my own ink blending tools out of foam make up applicators. I sort of ended up not using the applicator's properly, but I had a lot of fun playing around. I also ended up cutting pieces out of the applicators to make interesting stamped/blended shapes.
None of the pieces ended up looking all too great on their own, so I made my own "pattern paper" rectangles with my trusty Lawn Fawn's Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables and my new trusty My Favorite Things' Stitched Circle Stax--I wanted to get as many pieces out of each sheet as possible. Stay tuned for these pieces to show up in future projects! Below you will see some process photos and then an image of the sheet after inking and then the final die cut product.
Not only would I certainly never have thought I'd be doing this a year ago, I would also never have thought I'd have a reason to buy make-up applicators...

Birthday Cards
Dear Readers,
I came up with the idea for this card layout from this post on Splitcoaststampers. I can't tell you how much I love this new-to-me die--Memory Box's Cinema Film Strip. It cuts out all of the delicate little pieces and creates a great space to inlay faux film. I have lots of future ideas planned with this, possibly with tiny photos, but for now, I'll be pleased with my selective inking of the candles in Lawn Fawn's Baked with Love stamp set. I also used Lawn Fawn's Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables. The papers are from Echo Park's 6x6 Getaway, Heidi Swapp's 5x7 Wanderlust Collection, and basicgrey's 6x6 Prism.

Quick Cards with New Dies
Howdy, Readers,
I made a few quick cards using a bunch of new supplies including several word dies. For the last card below, I used an actual paint swatch card for a housewarming card. When I saw it at Home Depot a few months ago the size seemed too perfect, but it took awhile to come up with a way to use it. For interested parties, I used Pebbles' 6x6 Front Porch. For dies, I used Lawn Fawn's Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables, Lawn Fawn's Scripty Love, Memory Box's Cozy Kitties, and Mama Elephant's Hello Script Creative Cuts.
