Happy Holidays from the Book of Lael!

Howdy, Everyone! Today I've got a bit of a holiday medley for you. First, you'll see an image of the Christmas/Holiday card I sent out this year. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a blog post on On the Side after Five detailing how I made the card. After that, you'll see an amazing image/card made by my Big Sis (she'll let me know if she does not wish to remain anonymous!). All of you medievalists out there, I think you'll love it. It just made me super happy. Then, a Christmas comic made by the future comics superstar Charlie. Warning: It is not exactly in keeping with the Christmas spirit, but I choose to read it as a sophisticated comment on the nature of greed and sin...or something! And as an added bonus, some other drawings by Charlie. I just love the alien one! Finally, if you have the stamina to scroll all the way down, I include a poem I wrote for the season...well...season...

That's my grab bag of "treats"! Until next week!

The Twelve Days of Exams at the Library

On the twelfth day of exams,

My patron gave to me,
Twelve locker keys missing,
Eleven chargers breaking,
Ten students fine a-paying,
Nine e-books not loading,
Eight bindings detaching,
Seven affiliates a-whining ,
Six undergrads a-recalling,
Five moldy books,
Four ripped pages,
Three bound journals,
Two reserves overdues,
and a lost book in a plastic bag.

Join us as Dr. Lael, the Love Doctor, discusses Ex-students and Ex-boyfriends...

Disclaimer: This comic is much more fictional that my standard "love and dating" comics, ie. I am not talking about you. Don't get your scarf in a twist. ;-)

You know what I forgot? Hiding gray! A top 10 use!

Side note: My mom did have to cut a huge knot out of my hair when I was in middle school, and I wore a fluorescent rainbow headband while it grew back...

Charlie is only ten, but he already has an eye for the dark and the meta! Enjoy!

Leaky Roofs OR Yes, I had a Disney Princess sheet set. I am not ashamed.

I felt like drawing with my brush pens for the first time in awhile. It was fun.

More importantly, I am very thankful that the worst that happened to me was the leaky roof and that I can  continue to spend time obsessing over what kind of chocolate I will consume next. My thoughts are with everyone who was not so lucky.

I do a lot of other stuff, too, but a lot of it is pretty boring...

Disclaimer: This comic is not intended to represent the goings on of an actual library or my behavior in an actual library completely seriously. It's a comic!

True dedication is hard to come by these days...

Today’s comic is drawn by Dr. A! I woke up with such bad neck pain I could barely lift my arm! Woo hoo! Thanks, Dr. A.!

Cause we all know you have nothing else to do...

Planning on being bored over the long weekend? Feel like you need a comics fix? Well, great news! I have finished updating all of the Book of Lael Archives! References? Ummm...stand by...Hmm, I better make some calls…I’m a little behind on my correspondences…

FYI: As next weekend is Memorial Day weekend, next week’s post will occur on Monday instead of on Sunday.

Midweek Bonus!

For those of you who follow my comic, you've journeyed alongside with me as I've gradually improved with/bumbled through using Photoshop. This is certainly rough, but I did it in an hour, and I'm excited because I did not know how to do this previously. Yay, all day class on Photoshop Images for Web Production!

Will someone please wind my biological clock? I can’t reach the crank…

I’ve been rewriting this deeply personal comic for months--I rarely do that—and I’ve come to the conclusion that this will, in some configuration, become a part of the graphic novel I’ve been working on, so consider this a sneak peak! I suppose something has always felt wrong about it, and maybe that’s because it’s about issues I’m still grappling with. I’d like to think I’m not alone out there!

Note: Apologies for the weird size change. Guess I'm still figuring out the updated Blogger!

What about Gingerbread Men? OR They have the vanilla ones at the Giant on York Road. OR Lael, they’re f@&^ing cookies!

Some of you may remember the comic where I confessed to my long time addiction to sweets and discussed my epic search for the “leaf cookies,”  leaf shaped sandwich tea cookies which had slowly disappeared from grocery store bakeries. Well, they’re back!

I know it’s good advice because Dr. A found the pictures with little hearts on them on MY desk…(Just kidding! I cleared this comic with Dr. A first. :-) )

I jettisoned my beloved "manuscript" theme to make the comic more visible. Tell me what you think...too much scrolling? I promise more design changes in the coming weeks and possibly some retroactive uploads--I've changed comics back to February 5th so far! You can still view the image the old way if you'd prefer!

But would I know it if I saw it?

I AM working on getting a new website to improve image quality, but for the time being, please follow these instructions to view the enlarged image!

For Firefox, click on the image. Right click. Select "view image." Click again to enlarge. For Chrome, click on the image. Right click. Select "open image in new tab." Click again to enlarge. For Internet Explorer, right click. Select "open link." Right click. Hover down to the lower right of the image--an orange box should appear. Click on the box to enlarge.

Thanks so much for your patience! Please let me know if you still can't view the comic. As long as I can see it, I assume that you can, too!

I just hope it’s not a thousand piecer…AND Check out the baby bib I made today!

Today's comic first, but please scroll down to see the baby bib I made at a baby shower today. It was fun--everyone had fabric markers and blank onesies and bibs! I'm hoping mine will encourage the young lady to love medieval, my vague nod to medieval art!

Note: The comic not loading properly? Try Firefox! Also, you may have to click on the image, then right click to select "view image." Then, click again to get the larger image!
